The Historic Marine Way Seawall, Roadway and Drainage Improvement Project is a major infrastructure initiative focused on improving coastal resiliency, upgrading aging utilities, and enhancing the safety, accessibility, and character of the Marine Way corridor.

Developed with input from the community, the project addresses longstanding concerns related to flooding, shoreline stability, and aging infrastructure while also creating a more pedestrian-friendly and visually appealing environment.

Key Improvements

  • Seawall Replacement
A new seawall will be constructed to strengthen shoreline protection, reduce erosion, and safeguard adjacent properties and infrastructure from tidal impacts and storm events.
  • Drainage & Stormwater System Upgrades
The existing drainage system will be modernized and connected to a new stormwater pump station, complete with a backup emergency generator. These improvements will help reduce flooding and ensure reliable operation during heavy rainfall and extreme weather conditions.
  • Water & Sewer Infrastructure Enhancements
New water main and sanitary sewer systems will be installed along Marine Way, improving reliability, service quality, and long-term system performance.
  • Roadway & Streetscape Improvements
The project will enhance the Marine Way corridor with upgraded roadway features designed to improve safety and functionality.
  • Pedestrian & Multimodal Features
A shared-use path will be added to better accommodate pedestrians and cyclists. Additional pedestrian-friendly lighting will improve visibility and safety.
  • Landscaping, Hardscaping & Wayfinding
Streetscape enhancements will include new landscaping and hardscape elements that complement the historic character of the area, along with wayfinding signage to improve navigation for residents and visitors.
